Renowned Russian tennis coach Boris Sobkin commented on the victory of the world’s third-ranked tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz from Spain, at Wimbledon 2024.
“Everyone expected a long and intense battle, but unfortunately for Djokovic, he was outperformed by Alcaraz in almost every aspect: serving, volleying, baseline play, and decision-making speed.
The match didn’t go well for Novak. The main reason was that Alcaraz played exceptionally well. It’s hard to blame Djokovic for this loss. I believe this match was more about Alcaraz’s win than Djokovic’s defeat.
It’s difficult to say whether the Serbian’s knee injury affected the match. Only Djokovic knows that. Speculating on this is pointless. Outwardly, I didn’t see any signs that something went wrong specifically because of the injury.
Carlos has recovered from all his issues, is playing brilliantly, and has been gaining form throughout Wimbledon, which speaks to his and his team’s high level of expertise. However, predicting the future is very challenging. We all remember how Carlitos had injuries after significant victories and won tournaments. Predicting how many more Grand Slams he will win, and when and how, is something I would refrain from,” Sobkin said on the sports radio show “Movement.”
21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz claimed his fourth Grand Slam title and his 15th ATP career title.
